What is Cybersecurity?

Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting systems, networks, and programs from digital attacks.

These cyberattacks are usually aimed at accessing, changing, or destroying sensitive information; extorting money from users through ransomware; or interrupting normal business processes.

Creating a Strong Password

  • Use a mix of lower and upper case, letters, numbers, and symbols

  • Choose a different password for each website

    • use a password manager to keep them safe

  • Log out of your accounts when using devices that can be accessed by others

  • Lock your devices when leaving

What is Social Engineering?

  • Social engineering is the tactic of manipulating, influencing, or deceiving a victim in order to gain control over a computer system, or to steal personal and financial information

Tips to Staying Safe Online

  • Check to see if you are on a reputable website

  • Make sure the website is secure with https: or the lock icon

  • Do not download anything unfamiliar

How to Sport Phishing Emails

  • Emails may contain some of the following:

    • Typos or spelling mistakes

    • Unexpected email attachments

    • Use of a well-known brand

    • Links to fake websites

    • Masked links

    • Impersonation

    • Filter evasion attacks

    • Sense of urgency

What If You Are Uncertain?

  • Take a look at the sender’s email address

  • Hover over links to see if the link is real

  • Ask yourself, were you expecting an email like this?

  • Visit the website directly and log in to see if there is anything you need to be aware about

  • Call the company or person directly

  • When in doubt, contact our IT Team

When do I report?

  • When you suspect a security or data breach

  • Accidentally pressed on a suspicious link

  • Gave out information to an unknown source

Who Do I Report to?

  • Contact your Team Leader for further instructions.

    Your Team Leader will contact IT for assistance.

  • Team Leaders please post on Slack #IT channel
