Pandemic reflection: Edward

What were the first few weeks of the Pandemic like for you?

When BC was going on a lockdown, I was just returning from my 3 weeks vacation to attend my sister’s wedding in the Philippines. From panicking on how do we get back to Canada after Manila was put on lock down and having to self isolate for 2 weeks, certainly a lot of anxiety. A lot of things needed to be figured out but I am just glad that I was able to do it together with my family.

What was the summer like?

Mostly just taking it easy as my partner was recovering from having a heart attack (Just to be clear, I wasn’t the reason for it!), it was heartbreaking as I cannot be with her physically as she recovers in the hospital but she is strong and we were able to get through it. As she got better, we were able to squeeze in a small weekend trip to the Okanagan.

How would you describe how you’re feeling now?

Since cases are increasing again and it being too close to Christmas, very disappointed and a little bit down that this will be the first time ever that I don’t get to spend Christmas with any extended family member. I am very fortunate that my immediate family is part of my bubble and stays with me at home, so we still get to celebrate together.

What’s been the hardest for you?

Not being able to travel as much as we are used to and not being able to see and spend time with friends and family.

We believe that we are all in leadership positions here at Arcus, what qualities do you think have been most important in leading at this time?

Consistent communication. Regular check ins as this year has been very difficult physically and mentally.

How have you been taking care of yourself?

I tried running but has since stopped since I get tired easily. LOLs

We get by with a little help from our friends...who would you credit as helping you through this time?

My partner, family, co workers and my dog, Senor.

Do you have any life experiences that have helped you get through this time?

I am an introvert since I was younger. I have always kept my bubble small and it has helped me appreciate the ones close to me more.

Any silver linings? Small graces? New hobbies?

I like this slower pace in life, I get to enjoy things more than having things pass by so fast. Makes me appreciate who and what I have.

What are you looking forward to the most?

Hoping on a plane again, picnics, Richmond Night Market, going to malls, having not to wear mask and seeing everyone’s biggest smiles.
